Pop singer and entertainer, Dusty Springfield was one of the most successful British artists in the USA. With a distinctive voice, she made a particular kind of white soul voice her own through the 60s and 70s. In 1968 she went to Memphis and produced the critically well regarded album Dusty in Memphis with the breakout hit 'Son of a Preacher Man'. She died in 1999 of breast cancer and was remembered in the Times as being "much a part of 1960's Britain as the mini skirt."
