Husband and wife American rock and roll soul duo from the 1960s and 1970s, Ike and Tina Turner performed together for 16 years. With a dramatic live show, produced by Phil Spector with his 'wall of sound' in 1966, they released 'River Deep Mountain High. Although it did not chart highly in US on its initial release the song has since become a classic. In 1971 they released their greatest hit, 'Proud Mary', but their popularity waned and in 1975 they split up. Stories of Ike's violence and drug abuse emerged as Tina Turner's solo career burgeoned.
