Born Steven Demetre Georgiou, as Cat Stevens he was one of the most successful solo artists of the 1960s and 1970s with classic albums such as 'Tea for the Tillerman' and 'Teaser and the Firecat' and hit songs such as 'Moonshadow' and 'Wild World'. In 1977 he converted to Islam following a near drowning in the Pacific Ocean and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. He gave up music to concentrate on educational and philanthropic works. In 2006 he returned to pop music with his first new album in 28 years, 'An Other Cup'.
