Frank Zappa was a brilliant rock guitarist and inspired lyricist, he was also an orchestral composer, an innovative filmmaker, a producer, a business person and a perceptive political and social commentator. His prolific career ran from the late 60’s up until his death from cancer in December 1993 and onward through a number of posthumous releases. Baby Snakes premiered in New York City on 21 December 1979. The movie opens with FZ rehearsing with his fellow band members. The rest of the film combines live footage, primarily from the Halloween show at the Palladium in New York City, with assorted backstage material and truly amazing clay animation sequences by Bruce Bickford. After trawling through the Zappa vaults a new audio master came to light, mixed by FZ. This has now been remastered for Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo under the supervision of Dweezil Zappa for this new DVD released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Frank Zappa’s death.
